Downgrading unfavorable violent statistics at Rikers Island – often claimed but finally proven!
Downgrading unfavorable violent statistics rikers island
There has been a downgrading unfavorable violent statistics at rikers island. NY Daily News wrote an exclusive article about the “purging” or downgrading of statistics in Rikers Island. What does this mean? What it means is simple. The correctional officers are, on their own, or being told to, change the events in the paperwork.
For instance, the article points to a guy who was slashed in the forehead. However, the write up says he slammed his head on a bed post. The medical records confirm this to not be the case. So what is the case? We get plenty of people who state they had been slashed or assaulted. However, when brought to the City, they look only to a write up which states otherwise.
What to do:
This NY Daily News article finally confirms that this may not be the case. Often times, the staff wants to cover stuff up. Perhaps it’s because they are in on it. Perhaps it’s because they should have stopped it sooner. Either way, it is a problem for the victim. The reason is simple, the video is often non-existent by the time any of this is litigated. So the only thing we have to rely on is written documents. If these documents are falsified or “purged” entirely, then the victim has been completely railroaded leaving them no real ability to recover.
So what can be done? If you or a loved one is complaining about something, always file a grievance BEFORE the event. Someone harassing you? File a grievance. And keep a copy for yourself as proof! As we can see, they will happily shred the grievance or not appropriately file it in the first place. So you must keep copies for yourself.
